The Vigo County Sheriff Department provides law enforcement and crime prevention services. The department intervenes in cases of theft, burglary, robbery, homicide, murder, sexual assault and narcotics trafficking. It responds to emergency and nonemergency calls for service. It conducts investigations, gathers evidence, arrests offenders, and interviews suspects, victims and witnesses. The Vigo County Sheriff Department also operates a jail. In addition, the department has vehicle and watercraft police units. It conducts safety-related training programs for schools and the general public. The department has an operations division that responds during emergency situations. The Vigo County Sheriff Department is located in Terre Haute, Ind.
