I loved the quality of care when I began going to UAMS in 2014. I had an awesome physician (Dr. Khan Do). After Dr. Do graduated and moved on, I was assigned another doctor and after my first visit with her, I requested I get assigned to another doctor. I was approved to be assigned to the doctor I requested but when I go in for my appointment, I'm seen by another doctor. The next time I go in I'm seen by the doctor I was reassigned from. UAMS requires me to come in every three months to have my prescriptions renewed. I wasn't informed of this policy until after I tried to have my prescription refilled and the pharmacy faxed the doctor requesting an authorization to refill but never received a response. Three days passed and I contacted the pharmacy and was told they were waiting on an authorizatuon from the doctor. After another three days the doctor still had not responded. I was without hypertension medication for three weeks because I had to wait for an appointment to get a refill. When I finally went in for my appointment, I told the doctor that no one responded to the pharmacy request for a refill authorization. That's when she informs me that I have to come in every three months for a checkup to get a refill and how important it is to get my refills and take my medication! Ironically this was the doctor I had when I initially requested a new doctor! I'll go back in September to insure I have my refill on time in October. You would think I would have at least received a call notifying me that I needed to come in to see the doctor for a refill but I had to call to find out why the pharmacy wasn't getting some type of response.
Last month I was scheduled for a mammogram but when I get to the appointment, I'm informed that the UAMS doctor who sent in the request is no longer authorized in the system. The representative at the mammogram center contacted UAMS and was told the doctor had graduated (the same doctor I had requested to be reassigned from) and that no one was available to authorize the mammogram. After several calls the mammogram center representative was able to get authorization for the mammogram in order for me to have the procedure the same day. The new UAMS building is beautiful but the level of service has diminished.
