Powersports Dealers Association of Co
13670 Cherry Way, Thornton, CO 80602
The objective of the Powersports Dealers Association of Colorado is to promote and protect the strategic, financial and sporting interests of persons and businesses engaged in the retail sale of franchised motorcycles, ATVs, personal watercraft and snowmobiles. At the State Capital, in the halls of the state bureaucracy and in the association boardroom, PDAC is working for you! We are very pleased to report that several of our state's leading powersports retailers have recently completed an exciting reorganization of the Powersports Dealers Association of Colorado. Our goal was to revitalize the old ad-hoc association which preformed very valuable work for dealers and for our industry, but was not always representative of all the state's dealers and did not always enjoy the active support of the majority of powersports retailers. We have moved PDAC up to a new level so that it can be even more effective in the future in insuring that Colorado's legislative and regulatory enviroment is as conducive to our powersports retailing efforts as might be possible. In the absence of an effective association looking out to protect the mutual interests of powersports retailers and the industry's vendors and suppliers, there certainly remains the very real possibility that new laws or rules could have seriously negative, direct or indirect, impacts on our efforts to serve the motorcycle, scooter, ATV, personal watercraft and snowmobile riding public. A dedicated group of dealers has worked hard to create a formally structured and financially accountable association that not only effectively addresses issues critical to powersports retailers' business interests, but is also representative of the breadth of dealers in the state of Colorado. PDAC has recently filed Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws with the state of Colorado and has applied to be recognized by the IRS as a non-profit trade association. Bill Waters has been retained as the association's attorney and Kish-Leake and Associates has been retained as the association's accounting firm. The members of the new association will annually elect a board of directors. The directors will choose a chairman and a secretary-treasurer. An exectutive director of the association will carry out the day-to-day duties of the association as directed by the board. The members of the board will act as the members' representatives, actively seeking information and inout as to the wishes and concerns of the members. The board will meet at least quarterly. The directors have elected Mike Hendry as chairman, Jason White as vice-chairman and Kurt Finley as the secretary-treasurer. A member meeting will be held next year to elect the Year Two board of directors and its new officers. And, over the next few weeks, every retailer in the state will be invited to add their name to the association's roles, as well. Jerry Abboud, who has worked as the old organization's lobbyist and spokesman, has agreed to serve as exectutive director of the new PDAC. The executive director will be responsible to carry out the directives of the board and for lobbying the legislature, state and local agencies and other industry-related groups to adopt or abandon identified laws, rules, policies or positions that are contrary to the needs and concerns of the members of PDAC. Jerry has a wealth of experience in dealing with the legislature, state government and the incredible variety of industry-related groups. All of the powersports dealers in the state, and all the suppliers, consultants and vendors that work with them, have a vital and on-going stake in how the state legislature, various government agencies and other interest groups affect the fortunes of our industry. The industry needs an effective watchdog organization to protect the interests of powersports retailers and, by extension, the multitude of related organizations that serve the dealers and/or reach their ultimate customers through the dealer's efforts.
