We live in Tierra Verde and have eaten here a few times in the last year. I lived in Miami for 36 years…and I LOVE STONE CRABS!…in Miami all the restaurants we frequented served amazing stones… constantly delicious and fresh . So tonight at Billy's I asked the waiter if the stone crabs were fresh and explained that I know the difference that I was from Miami. He laughed and said we sell as many stone crabs as Joe’s in Miami…. That in its self should have given me the answer not to trust what he says…pretty dumb. Joe’s stone Crab in the #1 top-grossing restaurant in the USA. He also asked it I wanted them cold or hot…stone crabs are not suppose to be served hot…. Warm stone crabs have an iodine aftertaste…so no one ever serves them hot. I asked if they knew how to crack them and he said… well yea! Like Dah….

So he serves the stone crabs the first thing I see it the they seem really wet. Then I got to eat it… the shell is not cracked in the right places.. you suppose to pull the claw apart and use one side (Inexperience people working there..its so easy to do it right)… The waiter takes them back and now they look all mashed up… they are filled with water and are mushy! (Which means that they're not fresh. What a rip off! Billy’s Stone Crabs should change the name of the place and stop serving lousy stone crab that have been frozen and defrosted several times!

I do not prefer fried seafood and contrary to the person they menu is not all fried and I have the crab stuffed grouper with a salad with home made blue cheese and a steak fry's which was 9.95 on the early menu and as usual the music and view was worth the drive

This restaurant is one of my favorite after-church brunch places. I like to sit where I can see the lagoon and watch the birds. They have great eggs benedict and several other choices.

We went there on a recommendation of a friend and had looked forward to it. Unfortunately, the experience was well below par. I had the Blue Crab Claws & Salad for $12.95. No choice of dressing - house only. Typically fine if the house dressing is good. There was so much dressing on this salad that the lettuce was wilted/drooping. The crab meat seemed old and shriveled. I ate almost none of it. My friend had a grouper sandwich with fries. He did enjoy his sandwich - and I would hope so at $16.95. The ambiance was nonexistent, although there was a lot of varnished wood, upon entering it was like entering a bad hotel restaurant. The person at a nearby table was complaining about their steak - it was ordered rare and came well done. I wish I could convey the experience in better terms - but the bottom line is, going out to eat should be a worthwhile and quality experience. For over $40 (soda-not alcohol), there are much better choices.
