Who Are We: First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs was founded by Rev. Sheldon Jackson on August 17, 1872. For more than 143 years, First Pres has been a beacon of hope in this community. As we have since our founding, we remain committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the community and serving as a light on the corner of Bijou and Nevada streets in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. Where Did This Vision Come From: This vision statement is the culmination of a process that began in 2011. A lot of time, thinking and prayer has gone into crafting a vision statement for First Pres. This statement is a reflection of who we are as a church and the core values that have defined First Pres over the years. We believe this vision is God-ordained. It is a reflection of how God has moved, is moving and will move among this body of believers. We believe it is a reflection of who we are and have always been as a church, and who God is calling us to be to this community and the world. Our Core Values: Christ-Centered Excellence with warmth Honoring the past, risking for the sake of our future Outward looking (generosity, mission) Gifted, caring community Worship How Do We Employ This Vision: Let’s take ownership of this vision and consider how to live it out in our life every day. Is there anything else I should know? In addition, Session crafted three Strategic Priorities to help guide our ministries, staff and congregation in living this vision out as a church. The strategic priorities are: Building and supporting communities that worship, transform, send and serve. Proclaiming and demonstrating God's kingdom by engaging our city through opening doors, celebrations of God's presence and service. Fostering life on life relationships between generations that mutually build us up in our faith. Why Do This Now? For more than 143 years First Pres has worked to spread the Gospel in Colorado Springs and throughout the world. Now, more than ever, the Gospel is something the world is crying out to receive. Scripture is clear about the requirements for the church, all those who follow Jesus Christ. We are called to proclaim the faith we’ve received and carry that to all corners of the world. While he was in chains for his faith, the Apostle Paul exhorted followers of Jesus Christ to be sold out for him. He offers a bold exhortation in the opening verses of Ephesians, chapter 4. “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” — Ephesias 4:1-3 Our vision is “Prepare All Generations To Impact Lives For Christ.” In keeping with Paul’s exhortation, we see this as how we “live a life worthy of the calling” we’ve received as Christians. The focus of this vision statement is to help all those called as Christians to live out our call as the church.

I have been a friend of the church since 2001. Reverend Ward, secretary, Lori Hines and the congregation are the most loving, giving, and altruistic Christians I have encountered. I am blessed to have God place both of them in my life.
