Guillain Barre Syndrome

In the spring of 2008 I went to the Hospital ER for severe pain in my legs. also I was experiencing weakness in my legs and arms. Much to my horror they sent me home with a script for pain pills, which they were reluctant to give. Days later I returned with same problem. Only the pain so bad I couldn't stand it! I told them the pain was further up my legs and my legs are growing weaker. I pleaded with them to help me. The attending Dr. TOLD ME I can't find anything wrong, and you must understand we get people everyday saying their in pain just to get a script. Two days later I called my family Dr. and told him what had happened at the ER. Also that I was in so much pain, I was afraid I would do something bad to stop the suffering!!!!!!!

He called the hospital and told them to hold me on a suicide watch. He also called the Head Dr,of the hospital to completely check me out, that there was something desperately wrong. They checked me alright... for TWO DAYS! Blood gases, CT scan x-rays MRI'S... Finally they said after gathering my family @ my bedside. That I had congestive heart failure and a stroke! I said a stroke, they said yes! My sister in law said the left side of your face is drooping. Everyone was devastated! Crying!

A half hour later they said your brain is fine (no bleeders) It's not a stroke! and the ultra sound of your heart is fine! no congestive heart failure. They said, that is the GOOD NEWS. The bad news we don't know what is wrong!!!

Then into my room came DR. Peter P. Zangara. Within 15 minutes he not only told me what was wrong but proved it to me with a spinal tap (painless) He said there (will be) bubbles around the top of the vial of fluid and he was right! Then he told me this is a rapid moving disorder and it can paralyze and even be fatal! But he said I think we found it in time. It took 14 days in hospital, 7plasmapharisis treatments and weeks of learning to walk again but thanks to God and Dr. Peter Zangara I'M ALIVE and Well.
