Owens, one of the founders of Owens-Illinois, invented one of the first automatic bottle-making machines at the turn of the century, he revolutionized the glass-making process and set new precedents in technology, productivity and production affordability. Owens-Illinois continues to research, develop and engineer packaging solutions for customers throughout the world. The company has more than 100 manufacturing plants on five continents. Owens-Illinois provides glass packaging for beer, spirits, juice, tea, food and pharmaceuticals and is one of the largest manufacturers of glass containers in North America, South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In addition, the company offers several lines of stock plastic containers for the health care industry, with a focus on over-the-counter products, which includes jars, bottles and vials. Owens-Illinois also provides a variety of child-resistant, tamper-evident and dispensing closures. The company is based in Toledo, Ohio, and its location in Tolleson, Ariz., is one of several additional facilities.
