Provided by YP.comHad a very poor experience here. I called ahead to see if they could take infants.
They said, "as long as it is not too serious, like fevers, etc."
I took my baby later that day. She had been fighting a fever for several days, and hadn't been eating well. She was happy when we got there. After they called her back, they kid taking the vitals didn't seem to know what to do with a baby. He was not very confident (just what every parent wants to see).
ALSO, the equipment they were using MUCH worse than what I own at home. I expect a medical facility to have quality products. I also expect that, if you say you can handle children, that you have the proper equipment to take care of them.
Once I was in the room, the doctor came in. He took a seat and we chatted a bit about my baby. After that, he checked her ears and mouth. This is a sick baby who has not been feeling well for a week. She started crying. She has a lot of stranger anxiety (especially around men). He really upset her. I was having difficulty calming her down. He kept coming in to see if she was calm, which just made her cry more. She was afraid of him.
He said that she looked fine from the outside. Then, because of her crying, he said we needed to do a urine sample. If that didn't work, may draw blood. Maybe a poop sample. He kept naming tests to run on my baby. Again, NOT what a parent wants.
YES, I want her to get better, but this is my third child, and NOT my first rodeo at the doctor's office. At my kid's pediatrician's office, the only reason they cry is because of their shots. NOTHING ELSE. It is NOT just because he is a man, but he wasn't super gentle with her.
My thoughts: You can't treat babies the same way you treat your adolescent or adult patients! You don't stick a COLD stethoscope on a baby! You warm it up on your had (as best you can) for a few seconds, then place it on her back. Its the little things! It is also the little things (and some big things) that will keep me from returning to Texan Urgent Care.
