We have eaten here many times. Donato, the host, is always friendly and accomodating. The wait staff have always been very nice. The food is fantastic. I was very surprised to read the one other review which was so negative. I can't help but wonder that because they felt uncomfortable they made the staff uncomfortable also. The prices are very reasonable. The bread is the best and I would highly recommend it to anyone. I have met many other people who love Cafe Italia and go there regularly.

My friends and I were down in Seaside Heights, NJ we went across the bridge over to Toms River to find a place to eat. First place we saw was Caffe Italia. We walked in and we didn't feel comfortable dressed in what we were. We asked the greeter if we were underdressed he said no. They had table cloths on the table and they were all set, with plates and wine glasses. We sat down and we heard the waiters ask the others if we had enough money to eat there. Now we had an 18 yr old with us, I'm 17yrs. and 2 other 17yr olds. They proceed to talk loud enough so that we could hear them, saying that "are they old enough to go out by themselves." At this point we felt very uncomfortable, and wanted to leave, but figured that might be rude. We stayed. The waiter came over and said "what do you want to eat. " At a "fancy" place like this I don't see the waiters being told to say that? Later we heard the other waiter tell another table the specials, his name, and ask if they wanted a beverage.

After he rudly asked what we wanted, we ordered and the man misled us on how big something was, we ordered way too much because of this. My friend pronounced something wrong and the waiter corrected him very rudly. He left without asking if we wanted drinks. We flagged down the busboy, which was very nice, he got us drinks. The waitor brought out our food, took long. He set the food down abruplty and said nothing. We ate, the food wasnt too bad. After that the bus boy took away our plates. We waited a good half hour to get our check, we were never asked if we wanted dessert. Worst part was normally you rate the tip on how great the service is, well needless to say this waitor wasnt getting a tip. The check came and it was 10 dollars more than we expected. We checked and there was a "gratuity charge" for 20 %!! We didnt know what to say but we left the money and walked out, but will never go back and will spread the word of how rude their waiters are.
