I wanted to join a gym. So, I went in with a friend who already belonged. Having been to the YMCA, I thought I'd get a guest pass and be allowed to work out. This was not the case. I was taken into the office and pushed into purchasing a membership immediately. It's all a blur, but somehow I ended up giving them my card and signing a 12-month contract.

After that, life got busy. I didn't have the time I thought I would, and I was terrible at going since it was out of the way. I didn't work up the motivation to cancel until today. There were two events that lead me to this:

1) I'm not a rich woman, and earlier this month their charge got declined. The next day, they took the $20 membership, plus a $23 fee. THAT'S MORE THAN THE MEMBERSHIP ITSELF. Again, I'm not a rich woman. Seeing a large charge in my account that I wasn't expecting was quite a blow. (I talked to my friend about it -- she said that she was charged $9 in a similar scenario.)

2) This morning, I was randomly charged $29. I have since learned that it's a "club enhancement" fee. I'm not sure what that is or why they can't "enhance" the club with my regular membership, but there it was. Right before Christmas, when my budget is already very tight. So, I called to cancel. I was transferred to a manager who said canceling is impossible. I told her I literally CAN'T afford for this to keep happening. She said that reasoning didn't matter, it's impossible. Then she referred me to someone else.

So, I called the next person. I poured my heart out. I told her that my situation changed, and I can no longer afford it. I'm a single mom, and I've paid OVER $70 TO THE BAC THIS MONTH. She offered no sympathy, said I could cancel when my contract is up for renewal.

I'm out of ideas. I'm stuck in this awful agreement, paying $20/month for a thing I don't want. I should probably use it, but I don't trust myself to remain calm. If someone asked me to refer a friend, I might lose it.

Never again, BAC. NEVER AGAIN.

I love the there are many different pieces of cardio equipment I can choose from.

The classes are fun and exciting.
