Capital City Bank was established in 1892 as Neese Brothers Bank in Richland. In the early 1900s, the name was changed to the Richland State Bank. In 1930, Georgia Neese Gray began helping her father, Albert Neese, run the family business. In 1935, she began working at the bank as an assistant cashier and following her father's death in 1937, she became president of the bank. President Harry Truman named Georgia the first woman treasurer of the United States in 1949. In 1964, the Richland State Bank relocated to Topeka in a new building at the Southeast corner of 37th and Topeka Boulevard and was renamed Capital City State Bank and Trust Company. The bank remained in the Neese/Gray family until 1974, when Georgia and her husband, Andy Gray, sold the bank to Gaylen Lawrence and Jim Hentzen. They managed the bank until 1979, at which time they sold it to current owner and Chairman Emeritus of the Board Frank Sabatini. In 1993, Southwest Bank at 17th and Gage was acquired a nd merged into Capital City Bank. Southwest State Bank was organized in 1958 by Lou Falley and a group of local businessmen. Provided by YP.comI took bids from five different painters in Topeka for a small job doing trim work and Capitol City Paint beat everyone by at least 50 percent. I needed some work done on the exterior trim to get ready to sell my house and they were able to get my work done very quickly and in time for the appraisal so I could close on my house in time. They even moved their schedule around to get the work done before it rained. When the inspector required additional work Capitol City Painting came back the day I called them to make sure everything met the inspector's requirements and I closed on my house later that week.
