The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office, located in Topeka, Kan., offers a range of services to the residents of the area community. The sheriff s office is in charge of full-time law enforcement services, such as patrol, traffic, animal control and criminal investigative duties. It is also in charge of the servicing of criminal and civil proceedings and papers. Additionally, it organizes neighborhood watch programs and crime prevention and education programs, including anti-drug campaigns. The sheriff s office operates a community services unit that offers public presentations for organizations and community groups throughout the area on a variety of topics. The programs include home security, community awareness, scams against the elderly and child safety. The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office has a staff of more than 150 employees and is also responsible for drug enforcement and apprehension of wanted fugitives.
