Intelligent Optical Systems is a research and development company that develops technologies in optical sensing and instrumentation. IOS drives technologies through the development cycle all the way to fully-functioning, independent spin-off companies that focus on physical, chemical, remote sensing and biological sensing instrumentation in key markets segments, such as homeland security, biotechnology, medical, aerospace, environmental and industrial control. One of its companies, OptiNetrics, manufactures and markets active and passive integrated optic components, based on IOS-developed technology, for the telecommunications and defense industries. OpTech Ventures was formed to market and commercialize all of its technologies through sublicenses, joint ventures and the formation of new companies. OptiSense pursues hydrogen sensor markets in the automotive, fuel cell and aerospace sectors. Recognizing the need and potential for hydrogen sensing, IOS established one of the first hydrogen sensor research centers in the United States. Intelligent Optical Systems is headquartered in Torrance, Calif.
