The Pennsylvania State Police, established in 1905, is a full-service statewide law enforcement agency that protects lives and property, maintains peace and order, and deters crime through education, prevention and proactive police services. It employs a staff of more than 4,500 full-time sworn officers and over 1,600 full- and part-time civilians and community volunteers. The Pennsylvania State Police is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC). The agency provides various online crime statistics and maps, as well as crime reporting applications. With a station in Towanda, Pa., the Pennsylvania State Police operates nearly 80 stations and several other locations for administrative and investigative functions.
