The origin of the Greenville Water System dates back to 1889 when the American Pipe Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia built a water system to serve the residents of Greenville, S.C. This system was known as the Paris Mountain Water Company. The Commissioners of Public Works of the city of Greenville purchased the nucleus of the system from the Paris Mountain Water Company in 1918. The Greenville Water System is pone of the largest water utility companies in South Carolina and serves a population of more than 400,000 people. It receives most of its water from two large mountain watersheds, including Table Rock and North Saluda reservoirs. The company s geographic information system division transforms manual maps and records into digital formats. Its construction and maintenance department is responsible for the maintenance of the water system and installs taps, meters, fire hydrants and valves. In addition, the company organizes tours to its laboratory and water treatment facilities. Greenville Water System has a location in Travelers Rest, S.C.
