Nina Waber, MD
1500 N Wilmot Rd Ste B250, Tucson, AZ 85712
Nina Waber, M.D., is an experienced pediatrician who views the relationship with a child, the child’s family and the pediatrician as essential and unique. She works on establishing an open relationship where families feel empowered to communicate concerns and ask questions.
“Parenthood is not easy,” she said. “I want to be a partner as parents figure out the challenges that arise at every developmental stage of their child.
Inspiration to become a pediatrician stems from experiences she shared with her family growing up in Ethiopia, where there was limited access to health care. When Dr. Waber was a preteen, her mother lost a full-term baby after a normal delivery. The baby had complications but didn’t have access to the care she needed.
“I remember wanting to do something, anything to help,” she said. “That experience inspired me to pursue the medical profession. I could take care of children and families. I could make a difference in children and families’ lives. As a pediatrician, yes I can make a difference.”
As a mother herself, Dr. Waber is passionate about caring for families. She has a special interest in supporting new mothers during the transition from pregnancy to motherhood, management of obesity and related disorders, growth and development, and puberty and related disorders.
Dr. Waber was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopa, and moved to Tucson in 2003. She earned her Bachelor of Science in microbiology with honors from the University of Arizona in 2006 where she also obtained her medical degree in 2010. She completed a pediatric residency program at the University of Southern California in 2013 and has been working as a primary care pediatrician ever since.
