Established in 1929, the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a nonprofit agency that aims to help people of all ages to live their lives independently. It offers a wide range of services, including intake services, low vision examination and devices, independent living, orientation and mobility instructions, children services, employment opportunities, and technology training. Its orientation and mobility instructors teach children and adults techniques for determining their locations and for traveling safely in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. The center also provides various regional services, such as tours, public education, and presentations to senior citizen groups, schools, colleges, scout groups, and civic, religious and health-related organizations throughout the state of New York. It offers job placement services and training for visually impaired men and women. The center is headquartered in Utica, N.Y.
