Lowndes County Public Works Department is a public service agency offering various programs and services to the residents of Lowndes County, Ga. The department is responsible for maintaining the county s bridges, fleet of equipment and vehicles, buildings, grounds and parks, and maintains more than 850-miles of paved and unpaved roads. The department also installs driveways on rural roads, patches potholes, and cleans ditches in addition to grading unpaved roads. It is also is also responsible for road shoulder and sign maintenance and mowing. It also performs road improvements projects to stabilize bases on unpaved roads and improve drainage. The public works department also provides facilities and equipment maintenance services, and operates more than seven manned collection sites throughout the county where citizens can bring recyclable and nonrecyclable household garbage from their residences. It offers mosquito control services, and maintains surveillance of roadside ditches in densely populated areas of the county.
