The hours of operation are monday to Friday 9-6 Saturday 9-5 and closed Sunday Also, Rooster Roc in Portland is the only repair guy for industrial machines. HOS does not sell or repair industrial which is good they know their product. They are honest.

I'm searching for a Janome Model 605 upper (main shaft) timing belt pulley. Now living in Louisiana where else do I call but 'home'. I'm hoping Frank has stuck one in the corner just with my name on it! I won't give up on my sewing machine. Frank's always been the greatest!

I was stunned recently by an experience I had at this store. We purchased a vacuum there and at the time we were told that their claim to fame was service and tech support. I went into the store to purchase a new wheel since we cannot use the machine with the broken wheel. The service man at the time was pleasant but they did not have a wheel in stock and made no effort whatsoever to go outside the box in customer service. He said they just made a parts order and due to shipping will not be making another one “for a while”. He declined to sell me a wheel from a floor model or new vacuum (which he could then replace with a new wheel when it came in) and in general was apathetic to our dilemma.Fast forward one or two weeks (I can’t remember and wish I would have written it down). I call the store to see the status of the wheel and the “General Manager” Gary answers the phone. The conversation quickly went downhill. Although I admit a level of frustration (although remained respectful and compliant without a raised voice); the attitude, language and outright hostility in this man’s voice was over the top. He was interruptive, made several very unprofessional comments such as “Well I guess I’ll just eat the $25 because you need to vacuum right now” (I cannot convey in text the dripping sarcasm and unprincipled behavior on his part). I would have paid for the shipping ($25 really??) but was never offered the choice and did not get a chance to suggest it. The “General Manager” hung up on me after I said I run a business for a living and we would never presume to treat our clients in this fashion. We have since found the wheel at Save Store on Foster Rd in PDX for $2.99 and the customer service and attitude were professional and pleasant. I HIGHLY recommend this dealer and can personally vouch that although House of Sewing Machines & Vacuums may have similar quality products, they do not stand behind their word and when the “General Manager” Gary has the grossly unprofessional attitude I was subjected to I guarantee you will be treated significantly better and be much more valued as a customer at Save Store http://www.savestores.com/home.html or anywhere else for that matter.

The people in this shop have always treated me very well, and offer great service. I have had repairs done by them, and they were done quickly and well. I also went in with questions on how to accomplish a rolled-edge hem, and DeAnn sat down with me and gave me a demonstration. No one asked whether I'd bought my machine from them; they simply helped me and obviously wanted to help me be successful. I would not hesitate to recommend the shop.

If you have an industrial sewing machine and DID NOT purchase it from House of Sewing--don't bother calling to ask questions. They do not give lessons to people who did not purchase the machine from them. When asked if there was anyone they could refer me to, they were only able to give me a vague answer ("I think its called Rooster Rock Sewing and I believe its in the Portland area." when I googled 'rooster rock sewing in portland', the search yielded nothing.

I am an avid sewer. I have purchased five sewing machines from Frank Smythe and would not go anywhere else. The after sales support is fantastic! Every staff member treats you like a treasured member of the family. The prices are always more than fair, and they exceed the factory warranty for service and support. DO NOT buy a machine from the big box stores. You will be sorry. Go to a reputable dealer who knows the machines. You will not pay any more, but you will get a better value for your dollars. Go see Frank and his staff!
