Washington State School for the Blind, located in Vancouver, Wash., provides specialized educational services to visually impaired youth within the state. The school is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. It provides educational programs for students up to 21 years, with instructions in Braille. Its curriculum includes language arts, social science, math and physical education. Tuition, transportation, boarding charges, limited medical care and educational materials are partially funded by private and government grants for students residing in Washington. Parents are required to pay for clothing, personal expenses, medical costs and school supplies. The school also offers vocational courses and occupational studies program for students, ages 14-to-21. It also imparts daily living skills to its students, such as personal grooming and hygiene, food preparation, eating management, and clothing and room care.
