Students can expect an innovative approach to wind turbine training that will include classroom, computer-based and hands-on training. Our green energy training programs will teach students the technical skills necessary to service, repair, and maintain the demanding requirements of wind energy. Students will become familiar with the basic concepts of rigging, multi-meters, AC/DC electrical systems, hydraulics, computerized data collection, how to utilize solar energy training and more. Upon completion of this wind turbine technician training program, students will understand the need to follow industry critical safety requirements. Students will also be able to confidently demonstrate their newly developed skills. Graduates of this program will be fully prepared for jobs in wind power and qualified for entry-level positions as wind turbine technicians.

- Each student at Northwest Renewable Energy Institute will complete six courses with their peers. In just six months, students begin with the basic knowledge of wind energy and safety, proceed into electrical, mechanical, and electronics courses, and finish with thorough education of metallurgy and the hydraulic systems that are placed within wind turbines. Varying from maneuvering electrical circuits to climbing the tower, students gain hands on experience and are able to graduate the program with everything they need to succeed in the field as a wind energy technician. Learn more about these courses below. Intro to Wind: In this introductory course, students will become familiar with the history and development of wind as an energy resource. Electrical: Study the fundamentals of electrical systems, including everything from basic electrical circuits to the phenomenon of capacitance. Mechanical: Develop the skills required to operate, install, analyze performance, and design mechanical transmission systems. Electronics: Students will learn industry relevant skills which will include: how to operate, install, analyze performance, and select electric machines for various applications. Hydraulics: Students will be introduced to and study the fundamentals of hydraulic systems that are used in the wind turbine industry. Metallurgy: Students will gain a well developed understanding of the origins, properties, and uses of iron, steel, and eight other important metals.
