Unique Dojo in Birmingham, AL

Aikido of Birmingham, is a pretty special place and by far the best dojo I have been a member of (I've been a member of 6). While I have known Greg Faulkner Sensei now for almost 10 years I only recently became his student when I was fortunate to move to Birmingham for grad school at UAB. .For those who are looking for a place to be able to explore and make a martial art their own, this is the place. It is not what I would consider your typical hardline dojo, where accumulation of rank is everything, and the classes are segregated based on rank. The atmostphere is very relaxed and you can hear laughing and see the happiness in the members faces. Everyone works with everyone else be they a white belt or a black belt. There is no yelling or shouting, no forced excercise, just comradery and a sense of belonging. Faulkner Sensei has a saying, you must learn to make Aikido your own, I don't want you to do my Aikido, I want you to find yours. I am proud to call myself a student of Faulkner Sensei and encourage any persons interested in Aikido to give Aikido of Birmingham a try. I certainly have not regretted it and am very happy with the progress I have been allowed to make in this dojo.

Fitness and fun

I am with Aikido of Birmingham for more than 10 years now. It is a great place for fitness and fun. Practicing Martial Arts of Aikido not only improve one's strength and conditioning but also bring the confidence and calmness, which are very useful in the life outside of the gym.
