Vulcan Materials Company provides infrastructure materials and is one of the United States largest producers of construction aggregates and other construction materials. The company s construction materials segment produces aggregates, primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel that are used in nearly all forms of construction. In particular, large quantities of aggregates are used to build roads and nonresidential properties. Vulcan Materials has more than 350 aggregate production and related facilities serving more than 20 states, the District of Columbia and Mexico. In addition, the company operates more than 160 stone quarries, nearly 30 sand and gravel plants, almost 70 sales yards, close to 40 asphalt plants and more than 20 ready-mixed concrete facilities. Donald M. James has been the chief executive officer of Vulcan Materials for more than nine years. He has been with the rubber goods company for over 14 years. James earned a BS degree from the University of Alabama, and a JD from the University of Virginia. The company is headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., and has support operations throughout the U.S.
