Charlie's Carmel Corn & Candy

Ever since I can remember, (maybe the early 70's?) parties with all the cousins at Grandma Ellis' house included treat from Charlie's. Carmel corn for everyone and special "diabetic fudge" for Grandma (although she would sneak some carmel corn too). We would get to drink pop with that, which was also a treat, because back then pop was not an everyday thing for kids like it is now.



More recently, our trips to Vincennes are fewer than we would like, as the cousins and aunts and uncles have dispersed to many other towns. Still, Charlie's is one stop I look forward to, even though there's no party at the little green house on N. 13th Street where you could park in the back yard and chase lightning bugs past your bedtime. The carmel corn has never changed, always wonderfully sweet and can take me back to an easier time.



I hope this is one tradition that can pass to next generations.
