Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation is accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association. The department maintains and operates several playgrounds, picnic shelters, ball fields, and neighborhood, community and district parks. It supports a variety of sports activities, such as basketball, football, volleyball, softball and hockey. It organizes several recreational and cultural programs that include musical shows, craft festivals and health fairs.
