Q: ​what is life COACHING? ANSWER: in a nutshell. Life coaching is the business of helping people reach their maximum potential in ANY area in their life where they MAY BE struggling. Feeling "stuck". Or experiencing a sense of dissatisfaction. Life coaching is a partnership between the coach and the client. Where the client is supported by the coach while identifying areas of needed improvement. Setting realistic and achievable goals. And overcoming obstacles which MAY inhibit sustainable change for the client. Life coaching is the process of assisting the client to GET from point a to point B. Q: HOW does the life coaching process WORK? ANSWER: the coaching process begins with an initial consultation and a series of questionnaires and assessments aimed AT identifying areas of dissatisfaction for the client. Clients are given some of these assessments to complete independently prior to their initial consultation. While others MAY BE completed during the initial consultation and subsequent coaching sessions. The assessments cover areas of life such AS personal GROWTH/SPIRITUALITY. Physical environment. WORK/CAREER. Finances. Intimate relationships. Family & friends. FUN & recreation. And health & fitness. Following the initial assessment packet and the free initial consultation. The coach and the client will review and discuss the assessments and identify the Area(s) of need. AT this point the client MAY decide whether HE/SHE would like to move forward in the coaching process. Once the client has committed to the coaching process the client and the coach will work together toward defining the Client's goals and progressing the client toward meeting those goals. Ultimately it is the client WHO determines the tone and the pace of the coaching process. It is the role of the coach to provide support to the client through encouragement. Education. And ACCOUNTABILITY. ​Q: HOW does life coaching differ from therapy or COUNSELING? ANSWER: life coaching differs from therapy in that it is a supportive partnership in which the coach and the client work together toward the client's goals. In the the coaching relationship the client is the expert in HIS or HER life. And the role of the coach is to assist the client in discovering and clarifying the Client's goals. Encourage the client in self discovery. Elicit client generated solutions and strategies. And hold the client accountable. Coaching is focused on SELF-INITIATED personal growth through GOAL-SETTING and actionable strategies which are aimed AT favorable outcomes for the client's future. In contrast. Therapy often deals with healing the Client's past and present pain. Dysfunction. And conflict. AS well AS improving the Client's overall emotional and psychological functioning. In many therapeutic models the therapist is the expert. Who's JOB is to direct the client toward a specific beneficial outcome determined by the therapist. Though there are specific therapeutic models which employ a client centered approach. These still differ greatly from client centered coaching models. In therapy it is the therapist WHO is the "expert". And state licensure is often a REQUIREMENT. Q: is coaching right for ME? ​ANSWER: life coaching is for individuals WHO have a fairly clear idea of the outcome which they desire. Life coaching is a collaborative partnership aimed AT developing strategies for the client to reach HIS or her's desired outcome. Therefore. Life coaching is a good FIT for individuals WHO value collaboration. Different view points. And NEW perspectives in working toward their goals.
