Provided by YP.comI've been to Pet Paradise multiple times (I live in Richmond).
It's always clean, nice selection and very helpful staff. The guys in the reptile department are awesome!
I'm assuming the negative reviews are people that were loyal to a pet store that recently closed (right fully so, that place was terrible)

Provided by YP.comI am on the way there and I would hope after all these years of failure, this location has stepped up and overcame their failures to a more positive effect. I am looking for a new animal store ,as they have shut down animal jungle.so sad. so please don't let me down pet paradise today is march 8, 2015 and I will start with a low rating due to your past issues. I will return from store and I am hoping and praying, that not only did I find a new pet store , but that I can post something wonderful. Also, its Sunday, so no excuse for poor anything. sales should grow. You open at 12, so see I will see you later YP

Provided by YPmobileI've been looking for a good petstore that encompasses exotics and I thought this was it. First time in was a pleasant experience, but the second time in was awful! You would have to go up to people to get help or wait, and 3 out of four people I talked to in there were very rude! Some of them were kids so I think it's a family business, but I did not feel welcomed at all! I want a pet parrot in the future so I was trying to hold one and see what it was like. I asked if the bird bit and the guy said no, so I offered for the bird to step up. It did and then it leaned down and bit me so I nearly dropped it. Then the guy just said "if you're afraid of the beak don't handle it!" Way to come off rude and embarrassing, I've been doing my research here and love all sorts of animals. One of the women behind the counter didn't even work there so when I asked her a question she just snapped at me that she didn't know and she didn't work there, the women next to her did (which they didn't even notice me) and then ontop of that the guy at the register overcharged me by accident. Those are just a few examples. Their birds also looked in rough shape to be honest, and don't require you to sanitize hands before handling. Honestly I'm not happy after that visit and don't think I'll be coming back. Parrots aren't cheap so I won't be giving them my money for one.

Provided by YP.comI purchased a bearded dragon from them and when I came back to the store to ask if they would exchange him as he appeared sick and lethargic, they wouldn't. Turns out you have to notice the sickness "immediately" and of course they would "let me" donate him back to them so they could turn around and resell him to another poor individual that enjoys this as a hobby. I've worked in retail for over 18 years as a manager and never have I been talked down to as this young man did to a lady his senior. It is sad when a manager tells you that "You shouldn't have bought him if he was sick" (as if I could tell that day) and my response back was "You shouldn't have sold a sick dragon in the first place". Buyers beware!!! They may have a selection and good prices, but at what cost? You'll get stuck with a sick animal and no recourse because you'll then have to go purchase one at a higher cost and be out twice as much money.
I was very dissapointed in his attitude as a manager and maybe it was his immaturity, but please be very cautious and think about your purchase as they are selling sick animals and reselling them when they come back. I had been a loyal customer, spent a lot of money there over the years on equipment (never animals) and put my goods back that day and vowed "never again".

Provided by YP.comi am an extemly picky animal owner and i will only have the best for all my animals i have searched hi and low for a good store and this is by far one of the best pet store.. i have bought about 6 birds from there and there staff has showed me everything and was the most knowledgeable about my birds.. they even have gone as far as to special order certain toys that i wanted for my birds but i couldnt find anywhere. and when topper went out of business they made sure to find something that was just as nutritious for my birds. they do get really busy on somedays when i go in there but even at there busiest time someone in the staff always manages to greet me and make time .

Provided by YP.comAt pet paradise I felt so sorry for the animals. The store is so small and it smells. A lot of the birds were old and mean. A friend of mine bought a greater vasa parrot from them and less then six months later she had to put it down because it had a deadly disease that the vet said had before she bought it. There fish section is dirty you can barely see thru the glass and there reptiles are always sick. The staff don't even where uniforms and were rude to me because I didn't believe in feeding my bird what they feed there bird. So I don't recommend shopping at this pet store. I don't even know how they are still in business.
