I consider this facility a home away from home. The staff prioritize customer care and work well with each other. The patient care is excellent! The floors are always shiny and the center is really clean. I'm really impressed.

Alarming Patient Neglect

This facility is a nightmare.

Patients are typically not treated with respect, nor compassion.
CNA's are assigned to far too many patients, typically 15 or more patients per CNA.
Diapers are not changed on a regular schedule by most CNAs, and management refuses to address the issue.
Patients are NOT fed dependably, food trays are removed with little to no attempt to feed the patient.
There is NO individualized care plan nor activities provided for patients needing full care, such as those suffer from Alzheimers Disease or Demetia.

Family members or privately hired caregivers must track bowel movements and alert the nursing staff of the need for pain medications, UTI treatment, or constipation, and even simple personal care.

The facility uses physical restraint on an ongoing basis without following Virginia State guidelines.

Management at this facility expends an inordinate amount of energy telling us what they do NOT have to do for patients. They forbid CNA's to log diaper changes so her family can track her digestive health.

We have been extremely happy with the services and staff at this facility. My grandfather was at this facility for over 7 weeks (after moving him from another facility around the corner). Our family went to visit him several times a day and the staff always updated us. There was staff in the area to get him whatever he needed and promptly tended to his needs. It is a little noisy but in a good way. All the patients felt very comfortable with the staff and the staff interacted great with all the patients. I would highly recommend this facility.

This place is the worst place ever. The nurses are nowhere to be found and they do not give any care to their patients. The whole place is very noise and the patients are unable to get any peace and quiet. This is no place for someone who is terminally ill. Also, no one ever answers the phone in that place. Do not send your love ones to this dumb.

As the daughter of a current (but soon former) Virginia Wellness & Rehabilitation Center patient, I spent approximately 200 hours at this facility. Our mother was cared for inside of the center’s Section 4. During her stay, we found the staff listened to our concerns and followed through with any commitments they made regarding our mother’s care. I noted that at all times the staff was encouraging, noticed those around them, smiled, and practiced courtesy and kindness. Our requests for information always resulted in timely answers with solid explanations. The physical, occupational and speech offered our mother was top notch. I am pleased to say she now is able to stand up, walk, and, in general, take care of the necessities of life. Watching her stand from the wheelchair and get into my vehicle with NO assistance was something I did not expect. She had not been able to do that in over 5 years. The staff and administration have the best interests of the patients at heart. Family members of the patients are treated with respect.

great place

The rehab is excellent. The nurses and staff are compassionate and caring. The place is clean and looks nice. My father could not have asked for better care. My father is doing better now than he has in years!

DO NOT use this facility. My ...

DO NOT use this facility. My mother died at the hands of this facility - my mother went from independent living (September 10, 2010) and died October 22, 2010. She contracted c-diff, was not hydrated, fed or bathed. Sedation medicine was used unwarranted to where her legs were like jelly. The staff is 'too busy' to adequately care. My mother's pulse was faint and no one could get a solid ready. The Head Nurse never went back to re-check for the NCP. The blood technician found her dead two hours later. Beautiful story, of my mother's passing....

JUST PLAIN AWFUL

I would never consider putting another loved one in this facility. Always short staffed, poor team work, facility is dirty, and not to mention poor management. The only time the facility looks presentable is when state is in the building. That is the only time management comes out of the wood works and helps answer call lights and actually treats coworkers and family members with respect. Patients are left in soiled diapers for hours on end, call lights don't get answered in a timely manner, patients look dirty and unkept. CNAs get upset with the patients for soiling themselves and then fussing at the patient for reporting them. Patients trays get taken away from them without any attempt to feed them. The head nurse on unit 3 Cathy is very unprofessional and should not hold that position. I'm sure there is a dress code just like every other place of employment but this particular nurse wears tight low cut tops which shows an inappropriate amount of cleavage. When I have questions and concerns about my loved one, I'm not interested in talking to cleavage, she is not as knowledgeable as she portrays herself to be and shows no compassion to families and patients, talks down to you when you have issues comments or concerns. I have complained about this nurse but my complaints produce no results. Bottom line, do not place your loved ones in this facility.
