In my opinion, each patient is an integral partner in their own care. In my 35 years as a cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeon, I frequently treat patients who have serious and potentially life-changing medical and surgical situations. I believe that every patient deserves respect, undivided attention, an easy-to-understand explanation of their medical condition, treatment options, and the opportunity to discuss these options in great detail. Each patient is unique, therefore having unique concerns regarding their individual medical situation. I always take the time necessary to evaluate each patient thoroughly and make sure that all questions and concerns are addressed. I firmly believe that when a patient is thoroughly educated on their medical condition, treatment options and what results to expect, I then have an active partner in the treatment and recovery process.
