He began professional work for the federal government working as a media liaison with the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities. As Director of Communications for the Indian Health Service from 1992-2000, he handled communications responsibilities for the Director of the agency. As Director of Communications for the Center for Mental Health Service from 2000-2008, he supervised a National Social Marketing Campaign for improvement of mental health service programs for children and their families. After retiring from the federal government, he launched VetLikeMe in 2010, the nation's only digital daily news publication devoted solely to veteran owned business.
