My wife and purchased our own 250 gallon propane tank in 2004 when we bought our home and had it buried. We bought the tank from Empire Propane who was later purchased by Heritage Propane who was then purchased by Amerigas.

We have used Empire Propane and Heritage Propane for the entire 10 years we have owned our property. When we bought the 250 gallon propane tank we were not told that we could buy our propane from any company we choose, because we now own the tank.

We only use propane for a propane fireplace and nothing else. During the time we used Heritage Propane for deliveries the prices were always around $3.00 a gallon on the average.

When I found that Heritage Propane had been purchased by Amerigas in 2015, I decided to look around for another propane supplier. I found several companies who would deliver propane to my home for around $1.59 cents per gallon, so I contracted with the new company Suburban Propane for future deliveries to our home.

On 05/12/2015 I called Heritage Propane to tell them that we wish to close our account with them for future deliveries of propane because we have already contracted with another company to deliver propane to our home for $1.59 cents per gallon when Heritage was charging us $3.05 a gallon.

I told Heritage Propane that we were closing the account because I could get propane delivered to my home for about half of what they were charging me. I also told them that my wife and I own the 250 gallon propane tank on our property and neither Empire Propane nor Heritage Propane (who purchased Empire Propane) ever told us that because we owned the tank, we could purchase propane from any company that we wanted. We closed the account because of this and the fact that we have been paying an average of $3.00 a gallon of propane for the last 10 years. Fill ups were always over $400.

When we requested that Heritage Propane close our account they refused to do that. I was forced to write them an email so I would have a record that we had requested that our account be closed after the office personnel refused to close the account when we called them on the phone. I let them know that if they make any delivery of propane we will not pay for the propane because they will be considered as trespassing on our property because we had closed our account with them whether they like or not. Tired of being price gouged for ten years of high propane prices from this company.
