Provided by YP.comTHIS bakery is the off-shoot remains of the infamous Francis Bakery at the old Hamden Plaza, next to Dematteo's Pizza place. The childhood memories of this bakery will remain with me forever...and this bakery has taken those exact same recipes to Wallingford, with them. With the exception of those old brightly colored cupcakes that used to line the windows in the Hamden plaza...it is the same place... I now have moved to Maine and I STILL buy from this bakery...have products shipped to me from Frans to the Northwestern Mountains for my children and grandchildren which they totally enjoy ...and the people here are amazed at how good this bakery is...

Provided by YPmobileThis place is repulsive. I bought cookies today for my dad's 50th birthday and when I got them home, there were BUGS IN THE COOKIES. The Biscottis had spider webs throughout, with crumbs hanging off of them as if attached by hairs. There was even the exoskeleton of a bug in one of them. Disappointed isn't even adequate to describe how I feel about this place. It is repulsive and a health hazard and needs to be shut down.

Provided by YP.comI dont think they will ever let me down! Everytime I come in, its just like they get better and better. Mothers day for example blew me out of the water, they worked so hard to go all out and made these absolutely gorgeous cupcake flower pots! They looked stunning, and they tastes 10 times better. And how wonderful the long stem roses looked. They were so fresh I just couldnt buy one! This pastry shop amazes me and I wouldnt never recommend any other place. I suggest everyone who hasnt gone, to take time and give them a try! You wont be let down :)

And I absolutely love the variety of things he has. From danish to italian pastry and icecream to bread. I love that everything is freshly made everyday, and he has such a great variety of sugar free items! Provided by YP.comI decided to stop by this shop thinking it might be better than my other local bakery & boy was I shocked. The girl at the counter was nice but didn't know what babka was or brioche. So I asked for italian bread which wasn't in a plastic bag was just thrown into a paper bag & was hard as a brick & when I got home I saw that it had the texture & consistency of being toasted totally inedible, probably stale from other reviews i read. I also purchased a cheese danish for my elderly mother, who went to eat it that day & was shocked to see the cheese was rotted! I also bought hot crossed buns and only wanted 3 but had to buy six. the reason i only wanted three was because the other three had sunken in tops and only had one line of frosting ( i thought hot "cross" buns had a cross on them not a line). Then i purchased two cookies. The "sugar cookie" wasn't a sugar cookie it was stale and tasted like butter & almond extract. It was a huge uneven shaped cookie with sprinkles that looked like a 2 year old made it, it crumbled all over the place when I tried to take it out of the bag. The other cookie was a chocolate chip cookie which had barely any chocolate chips (& they were mini chocolate chips basically u could count the chips). The flavor was of pie crust, tasted purely of butter & once again a hint of almond extract. The cookie was uneven in size shape, width, & height, it wasn't soft it was hard as a brick, & also crumbled everywhere . Even my husband who eats anything wouldn't eat these things they were horrible & horribly expensive! My family has financial difficulties & wanted to bring a smile to their faces but i ended up with a huge mess an angry mother, an upset family, & a waste of money I should of just gambled it away and maybe I would of gotten something for the money. I even called the bakery to let them know about their product. I spoke to the manager, & was told that is how everything should be, & even the rotten danish is edible because they refused to compensate any of the items, or replace them. The only thing I got was a huge attitude & a untruthful apology (which was said with anger & not believing the claims). I even have read the owner complains about the cost of flour maybe they should just close shop!! I do not recommend this place to anyone!!!

Provided by YP.comI called Frans Pastry shop to find out if they made a Bungalow cake and he said they did. I told them no CHOCOLATE. When I pick up the cake I ask again to make sure no CHOCOLATE she said "I guess so". That should have been my first clue as to what this cake was going to be like! At the office when I cut the cake I notice only one skimpy layer of mush banana & strawberries in a mixture of a jelly custard and bits of choclate on the bottom!. Oh well what ever I thought maybe this is how they make it. I have had it before and it was alway 2 layer of FRESH BANANAS & STRAWBERRIES. When we started to eat it I realized as well as the other people in my office it was not only frozen it Tasted Bad. It was REPUGNANT!! Then to my dismay as I look were the cake was sliced I noticed a picec of pastry brush. I call the owner and told him about this terrible embarssing situation with this cake I purchased from him. All this ignorant man has to say was in a very couldn't care less attuditude "Ya so bring it back". I threw it in the Garbage! I work in one of the largest corporation in town and i work with serveral of the caters of this area in my position and never had there been any thing that look or taste so bad!!

Provided by YP.comThe food is prepared horribly and handled with bare hands, that you have no idea if they are clean or not. They are over priced and are very sloppy in the making of specially ordered cakes. They are also VERY rude to their customers!!! After watching two coffee cakes that we ordered, which are very dry & hard, have the man getting them out of the case for us stick his fingers in them, we then asked for our money back because we did not want to eat them! The older man, who is the owner, rudely told us not to return to his store because we asked for our money back!! A few days earlier we ordered two birthday cakes, WAY over priced...one was incorrect in what ordered to be written on it & was done very sloppy. The other was also sloppy and was the smallest cake, 7 inches, and was only vanilla with vanilla frosting, no filling and cost $16.00 just for the that ONE cake!!! Not only are we disappointed in how the food is handled, over priced, but we are highly disappointed in how a small town owner of a bakery would treat his daily customers that come in every morning for coffee and a pastry! My husband and I will NEVER go into this pastry shoppe again!!! I suggest the same for others, unless you don't care how your food was handled & you want poor customer service...plus pay an arm & a leg!!!

Provided by YP.comIf you like eating saw dust and paying more or less for the same thing depending on what cashier you get.
I went in one day and bought the large sprinkle cookies for my kids-both took a taste and said no thanks. The cookies are very dry and certainly not worth $2.50.But hey if you don't want to take my word,go right head and throw money out the door and try one-actually if you were going to buy it you should by it for someone who is on a diet cause they wont be able to eat it.And if you want to see money fly- buy a cannelloni-keep your receipt-sometimes it will be $2.50 and then sometimes $2.75-depending it seems, on the cashier at the time.
Buyer beware-Not worth the disappointment when you are going to treat yourself and aren't getting what you are paying for.
