Dr. Means and his staff are terrific with the animals. Took my 17 year old Chihuahua, Snickers over there, thinking I was going to have to put him to sleep. Dr. Means gave me some medicine and said let's try this first, and it definitely made a difference. I get to keep Snickers around for a while longer. They take appointments and walk-ins and are VERY REASONABLE on the cost. It's not a fancy place if that's what you're looking for, but the animals don't care if it's fancy. It's ALL about the animals and I love that. I live 45 minutes away and it's well worth the drive for me and my animals. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Alpine to anyone that wants the best care and price for their fur babies!

I love Dr. Means. I always have. I just took my little Maltese, which was attacked by something large on December 9th in the evening around 10:30 pm. She was in pretty bad shape and her right side was crushed and having trouble breathing. He has kept her and changed antibiotic's a couple of times runs labs on her constantly to watch her enzymes and white blood count. Well I get to pick her up today as I get the okay to bring her home. The bill is $131.50 and she has been there for 2 weeks today. The girl (staff) has spoiled her. Dr. Means is a great veterinarian and a great man. My daughter just went on medical leave (pregnancy) from working with Dr. Means just prior to my dog being attacked. My daughter misses Dr. Means as she has been real good to her and has taught her so much. She talks about Dr. Means all the time and how nice he is to her and the rest of the staff. Just remember everyone has bad days and with Dr. Means he is not there for you the human, he is there for your cat and your dog. Just keep this in mind as he's not a people person, but then again he has never been mean to me. He's just there for your fur babies. Love you Dr. Means and the rest of the staff.

I Love Dr. Means! His heart is always with the animals1 I have had 2 cats spayed there. One of those cats, Ginger had a hernia which he corrected and kept her 2 days and only charged me $36. for her surgery and after care! A wonderful man and crew! I now live in Colorado but will gladly drive the distance!

I took my dog there after I received wonderful reviews from a friend. My bill was $60 for my dog who stayed 4 nights and had parvo. My other dog had parvo stayed at another vets office for the same amount of time, the bill was $300. The wait was long on a Saturday but worth the wait. He and his staff truly care about the animals that come thru their doors.

My husband and I recently move...

My husband and I recently moved to MO due to being restationed because we are military. We have one dog and 1 cat, both of whom receive regular vet care by the way of shots, heart guard, worm checks, physicals,etc...In fact i usually have 2-3 vets that see my pets because some are only open weekdays, some weekends, some do emergencies etc.. I was excited to try Dr. Means and the Alpine clinic because i got good reviews about how well he cares for animal. I was warned ahead of time that he has an ASD or something similar and is not really a people person but is great with animals. I myself have to BIL's with ASD's and work in healthcare so i am very familiar with ASD's and how awkward interaction can be for people with them. However i do not think having an ASD gives you a right to be unprofessional and treat new patients like crap just because they are new and don't know your quirks and how to walk on eggshells around you. Also you would think if Dr. Means has so many quirks that his staff would know how to brideg the gap between him and the customers so that customers dont run screaming from the facility, this is not the case however. Let me tell you about my first experience at Alpine vet clinic and why i wont ever go back.

Like i said my husband and i just moved to MO in may with our two pets, previously in our last home we had NO flea issues and kept our pets free from ticks and fleas using Biospot an OTC med we purchase at Petsmart when we get food and other supplies. Once we got up here within 2 months of being in residence our pets started showing signs of fleas. I began getting more aggressive with the OTC stuff and bathing the animals more often, but it was to no avail. The flea problem gets worse and now my husband has bites and i found fleas on my 7 month old daughter. Ok enough is enough, i research online some different things to help eliminate fleas both on my pets and in my home, but i still wanted to talk with a vet and formulate a plan to get rid of these pests and ask about the different medications like Capstar, Advantage II, and Frontline. I go in for my first appointment on Sunday and i check in at the desk with my cat and dog and i tell the girl at the desk whats going on and why i want to see a vet, she says ok no problem and writes my name down and i sit and wait. Now i read the sign that talked about wait times and i fully understood i would be there a while, i was fine with that. My poor pets were miserable biting and scratching and i just wanted to give them some relief and discuss options to treat my home with a professional because i had ZERO flea experience before moving to MO. So after the 1 1/2 hour wait the girl vet tech calls me back and i grab my crew and go. I walk into the exam area and haven't even set my cat in her carrier down on the table or had my dog walk in on his leash and Dr. Means looks at the diagnosis paper and reads why im here, he then looks at me and says, quote " I don't do flea infestations on Sundays, go somewhere else" and then promptly turned around and walked off. The vet tech started to ask him what he meant and he repeated himself to her and left the room. I stood there for a moment trying to figure out what the hell was going on and the vet tech and desk girl both looked embarrassed and walked off leaving me standing alone to let myself out. I kept my cool because i figured this was one of his ASD quirks, but inside i was royally pissed. I took my pets outside and loaded them up and went home. 15-30 minutes later i get a phone call from the vet tech wanting to recommend some OTC meds for me!! WTF??? I have been using OTC meds for 2 weeks with no help and i needed to discuss other things besides the OTC meds.

Just had my first of many futu...

Just had my first of many future vet appointments at the Alpine Small Animal Cinic. I will be taking all my pets to Dr. Means going forward. I recently heard he was the best at affordable prices. He is all of this plus!! His staff is very helpful and friendly as well. I found Dr. Means amazing! He is a super intellegent, compassionate and hard working vet with a true heart for your pet.s health. He is a rare precious man and can't be superseded in anyway. I know my chocolate lab was in the most helpful hands and will be back to his ole playful self again really soon! Praise, Highest Respect and Regards to Dr. Means!

Thank You

I just wanted to say that my little Boston Terrier had a cherry eye and in Kansas City vets wanted $1200 to $2400 to fix her eye. I love my dog and I don't like to see her have disconmfort and she had been rubbing it a lot. Dr. Mean was nice enough to look at her eye and operator on it and she is as good as new and he charged me $45 for a nights stay and a shot and the operation.

He was very loving to my baby and even though it is true he is not a people person, my concern is for my dog and not what a great customer service person he is.

Thanks again Dr. Mean!!!

The best vet for miles

Dr. Means is absolutely wonderful with animals. Dr. Means does anything and everything he can do to save an animal. Dr. Means saved my dog when another vet told me that he had parvo and would need 1000.00 to start treatment. Turns out my dog did not have parvo and only had a minor illness that was easily treatment with meds. I believe it only cost me 30.00 when another vet tried to charge me 1000.00. I would recommend this clinic to everyone-In fact many of my friends drive an hour to have their animals seen by him.

Best vet ever ( And cheap!)

Dr. Means might be an unusual guy but he is an animal person definitely not a person people! I havent had any problems with bringing in my dogs at all. For two dogs and four medications only 35 bucks cant beat that. As long as you can wait a while, and stand the amonia smell its all good. Remember its for the animals its for the animals!

Veterinarian

It is unbelieveable that a so called Vet would turn down an animal in dire distress. To tell a person that they best thing that they can do is turn around drive back from where they came and find someone else is indeed something that I would expect out of a high school drop out. Not from a "Dr." I would not recommend this vet to a dying lizard if it was his only means of surviving.
