Capital Area Food Bank is one of the largest, public nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resources in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The food bank collects, sorts and inspects product for distribution to member agencies and Kids Cafes. Each year the food bank distributes more than 20 million-pounds of food, including over 6 million-pounds of fresh produce through nearly 700 member agencies. Capital Area Food Bank was founded in 1980. Some of its community-building initiatives include Kids Caf , Food For Kids, Face Hunger, the Anacostia Farmers Market, From the Ground Up, Sister Hook-Up, Produce for People and the Brown Bag Program. It also conducts interactive workshop to increase awareness and understanding of hunger and poverty.
