Founded in 1975, the National Conference of State Legislatures is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs throughout the United States. It oversees matters related to state and federal issues, such as federal regulations, human services, immigrant and health policies, and private and public laws, as well as elections and campaigning solutions. The organization provides research, technical assistance and consulting services for policymakers to formulate new laws and manage the legislative institutions. It additionally organizes various meetings and seminars to help lawmakers in representing the citizens of the country to amend policies related to state and federal issues. The organization is governed by a 60-member executive committee, which comprises of legislators and legislative staff members, who are elected annually. The National Conference of State Legislatures maintains one of its offices in Washington, D.C.
