The United States Botanic Garden maintains a collection of more than 25,500 plants. It is one of the oldest botanic gardens in North America. The garden features cacti, orchids, succulents, bromeliads, cycads, ferns and medicinal plants. The United States Botanic Garden promotes botanical knowledge and conserves endangered plant species. Its public programs division s plant records section is responsible for planning and implementing record-keeping procedures. The garden features Bartholdi Park, which was created in 1932. The United States Botanic Garden partners with the Corcoran College of Art + Design to offer a certificate program in botanical art and illustration. In addition, it organizes various lectures, tours, workshops and demonstrations. The garden is administered by the Office of the Architect of the Capitol.
