Zareen Zaidi, MD, PhD is a Professor of Medicine at George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She trained in internal medicine at New York Medical College. She is an active clinician who has worked nationally & internationally in Medical Education for over 20 years. Earlier in her career she completed a fellowship in medical education from the FAIMER institute in Philadelphia (Foundation for advancement in medical education & research). This was followed by a PhD in medical education from Maastricht University School of Health Professions Education. Prior to joining GW, Dr. Zaidi has served as Director of Longitudinal Portfolios for the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine. She has also increased the medical education scholarship visibility of the UF College of Medicine as Director of Scholarship. Additionally, she has served as Associate Chief of Faculty Development within her division. During her time at UF, Dr. Zaidi received the highest honor for teaching awards for UF College of Medicine for five years in a row (Exemplary Teaching Award) and was elected to the Society of Teaching Scholars. She has also received multiple awards for excellence in clinical care. Her research has been recognized and supported by the Medical Education International Travelling Fellowship Award, granted by Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME). She recently received the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation John A. Benson Jr., MD Professionalism Article Prize 2021. She has received regional recognition via the Southern Group on Educational Affairs awards and on a national level, has served as the Association of American Medical Colleges Research in Medical Education (RIME) committee Chair for 2021.Zareen has received both regional and national AAMC Medical Education Scholarship Research and Evaluation Grant (MESRE) grants and has published her work in all top peer-reviewed journals in the field of Medical Education, including Academic Medicine, Medical Education, Advances in Health Sciences Education, Teaching and Learning in Medicine and Perspectives on Medical Education. She serves on the editorial board of Teaching and Learning in Medicine and Perspectives on Medical Education. Her research focuses on issues related to power, race and social justice.
