Provided by YP.comIf you decide to transfer your child from another school, they will invite your child to "sit in" for the day. During that day, the teacher will decide if your child "fits" in.
I was told by the fifth grade teacher, Ivy Wambach that my 5th grader was "too behind" for the school and would never be able to "keep up" with the rest of her class. She told me that she had him read for the class and apparently her assessment was based on that performance. My entire conversation with her left me in complete shock as she went on and on about how "advanced" her classroom was and how quickly she moved her students along. She made it very clear that my son was not anywhere near the caliber of "her" students. She turned him away.
Naturally, I appreciate the superior academic curriculum and outstanding achievements of this private school environment and one of the very reasons that I sought the school out in the first place. I felt like my son was not being challenged in his public school setting, though he was an average/above average student in that environment. I thought this would be an opportunity for him to grow not only academically, but also in a faith community- keeping in mind that this is a Christian school.
Anyone can teach. Every once in a awhile you stumble upon a teacher that truly wants every child to succeed....to be counted...to matter... and to make a difference and they are willing to put forth a little effort to make that happen.
Since my son was not allowed to enroll at Faith Christian, we settled on another private school for him. One of the teachers at his new school noted that my son is a little "shy" when it comes to reading and speaking aloud (which we already knew), but claims that it has nothing to do with "lack of skill" and indicates that it is more a public speaking-based nervousness.
After my conversation with Ms. Wambach, I was never contacted by the principal nor did I receive any additional feedback. The school did not view my son's previous academic record nor did they offer to formally test him. That was it. They felt he didn't measure up academically and they didn't want him.
The school itself seems wonderful and if your child "knocks it out of the park" on that first "sit in" day....you should have no problem.
