Gene Melchionne graduated from Drake University School of Law in 1980 where he received the American Jurisprudence Award for academic excellence.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and is also the Connecticut State Chair.   Along with fellow lawyer, Jay Fleischman, he hosts the Money Go Roundtable podcast on iTunes.  (www.moneygoroundtable.com)  He co-founded and formerly served as the President of the Bankruptcy Law Network, a website devoted to providing bankruptcy, credit,and mortgage information to consumers.  Anoccasional contributor to the Legal Practice Pro, he plans on expanding that role advising attorneys nationwide on various issues of technology in the law office.  (www.legalpracticepro.com)  In 2007, he was appointed to the Supreme Courts Commission on Foreclosures in light of the unprecedented increase in home foreclosures in Connecticut, a role he continues in to this day. Formerly, Melchionne was Vice President of the Waterbury Credit Bureau and a member of the Northwestern Regional Council of the American Institute of Banking and the only attorney to receive its prestigious Ken Kovel Award.  He has also been repeatedly recognized by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court and Law & Politics, a national attorney-led research team, in conjunction withConnecticut Magazine, has named him as one of the Connecticut Super Lawyers. He has won that prestigious award three times.

He currently limits his practice to consumer bankruptcy cases, foreclosure defense and all consumer claims arising with respect to those cases.  Melchionne has been widely recognized as a leading consumer attorney in bankruptcy cases.  He has also taken on creditors who attempt to collect debts that have been legally discharged in a bankruptcy case.

Melchionne is a long-time member of NACBA and a national speaker on bankruptcy law and consumer representation. He has been featured on the PBSshow NOW on two occasions, appeared the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric and on a segment of Your Money on CNN.  He has been interviewed by the New York TimesWall Street Journal, Business Week, the Connecticut Law Tribune and numerous Connecticut newspapers.  He is a native of Waterbury, CT and currently resides here with his wife and son.
