Provided by YP.comIn February 2012 my husband and I purchased a 2005 Ford Expedition from Hayes Auto. We were leery about buying a vehicle so far away- we are about 2.5 hours away from Watertown. After taking the Expedition for a test drive we found out the AC was not working. The salesman offered to put in the sale that the dealership would allow us to have our mechanic fix the AC at their cost. We bought the vehicle. About ten minutes off the lot we realized the cruise control also did not work. We called the salesman and he informed us he would put the cruise control in the contract of sale as something the dealership would also fix. We were misinformed when the salesman stated we could get these two items fixed by our local mechanic. The salesman stated that because the cruise control fix could be very expensive they would need us to bring the truck to their mechanic closest to us in Waupaca. So my husband took off of work on our gas expense got the vehicle to the mechanic in Waupaca. The AC was fixed almost immediately, the cruise control however was misdiagnosed. When I informed the owner of Hayes, Brad, that the cruise control part they sent did not fix the cruise issue he said we would need to bring the truck down to Watertown to have the other mechanic look at it.I informed Brad that we would like to have our local mechanic look at it and he told me then they would pay for the part but not the diagnosis. So we had our local mechanic look at it and Hayes sent us the part that was needed to get the cruise control working. A week later the check engine light went on. A week after the check engine light was on the truck started misfiring and stumbling. I called Brad. Brad told me to bring the truck to Watertown to get it looked at by his mechanic using our warranty. I wasn t comfortable driving the truck 2.5 hours with it stumbling, Brad said he understood, but said that was our only option. I informed him how frustrated I was and we agreed that he could send us the parts that needed to be fixed, but we would need to pay the labor at our local mechanic. The check engine light was caused by all spark plugs needing to be replaced and one ignition coil. This really upset me because for a dealership this is simple maintenance that the buyer expects to be done before purchasing the vehicle. Not the case and our problems with this vehicle did not end here.A week after the spark plugs and ignition coil were replaced the transmission started making a torque noise. $300 later on our dime we had the transmission flushed-another common maintenance that could have been prevented. A couple days after the torque noise was resolved on our dollar, a rattling was heard under the vehicle that was a concern of my husbands, thinking that it could be the transmission. We brought the truck back to our local mechanic, because Hayes told us again we would need to bring it to Watertown to be looked at if they were to pay anything. We found out that the rattling is our catalytic converter breaking off into our muffler. So $900 later we replaced both catalytic converters and have been nervous for what could be next to come. Concluding, would I recommend this dealership to someone looking for a reliable vehicle at a decent price? Absolutely not. Since purchasing this vehicle I have had nothing but a headache. I am frustrated at the dealership for boasting about how this vehicle was thoroughly looked at by their mechanic and that engine work was done on it that should keep us problem free for another 100,000 miles. I am also mad at my husband and I s decision to purchase such a used vehicle without asking the right questions and allowing ourselves to fall in love with a vehicle so far away from where we live. Bottom line I expect a dealership to inspect and maintenance a vehicle that has high miles or low miles. How do you expect to get good reviews when the customer has to pay the outrageous prices of maintenance when the dealership can right off the cost?
