I had my LOOK carbon frame fixed, stripped and repainted by Joe in 2009. He changed the paint from all white to a cool metalic fade. I couldn't be more happy with the way it came out.

Stay Away, Poor Quality & Workmanship, Doesn't Follow Through With Customer's Needs!

I wanted to share my bad experience with you that are looking on getting your bike painted by Joe Vasquez of Joe's Bicycle Painting in Watsonville, CA. I looked around for a good high quality show painter in the Northern California. I have talked to several painters before choosing Joe's Bicycle Painting due to he claims he has award winning quality finishes and is the factory painter for Calfee and Kestrel. It was just a totally mistake, a screwed up mess on my part to have contracted this paint job to a person who claims he has 30 years of experience in custom painting on bicycles. I asked him directly, can you do show quality custom work aside from production factory paint jobs. I know you advertise you do the paint work for Calfee and Kestrel which is production work, what about custom work aside from the everyday production paint jobs.

To cut it short, I drove two and a half hours, 150 miles to Watsonville to meet up with Joe himself and showed him exactly how I wanted carbon fork painted. I spent about a half hour stressing the importance of having a quality paint job and decal back in the original factory positioned. I said if you don't think you can do a quality custom job then please let me know now! Joe assured me he would do an excellent custom job for me. This is small project only painting a fork and replacing the decal which took 4 weeks.

So my fork arrived to me and I opened the package with excitement thinking it's finally here after 3 weeks late and to my surprise the decals were complete crooked, and there's dirt, dust light scratches in the paint opposite to what we discussed. I called and asked him what happened on what we discuss on the decal placement and a quality job. I thought we discuss this in details that you knew what had to be done! He said he had his employees work on it as he didn't have the time. I said you assured to me that you were going to take care of it from the start to finish. I asked for a refund and he refused and said he'll repaint it and send the fork to me and let me apply the decals and for me to send it back and he'll finish with the clear-coat. I was thinking this is why I'm paying a professional and he wants me to apply my own decals. I had to send the fork back to him since he would not refund me. I ordered a new set of decals so once he paints it I could apply it my self.

I received the fork back 3 weeks later and opened up the box and again this is totally blowing my mind away as I can't get through to this guy! This time the fork is repainted but it has about 11 dust specs through out the whole fork as there are 5 in the place where the decal should be placed. I made a decision this fork isn't going back to him again so I called him asked him what happened? I have dirt, dust & light scratches in the paint. How am I going to apply the decals over this area with dust in the paint? He said his guy sent out the fork without finishing it and that it's a simple fix that I could lightly sand it and apply the decals and send it back to him and he'll finish it. I said I paid you to do a quality paint job. Why should I have to sand it and put on the decals myself? I asked him to send me a refund regardless. I said I'm not sending this fork back to you. I'm going to find someone else to redo this mess.

So please if you have anything that needs be painted correctly, I would highly advise you to look else where. This shop doesn't follow through with the customer's needs, very unprofessional, no customer call back or contact, poor customer service as you constantly have call to check on progress and overall very poor workmanship! So my word of advice is to beware when using Joe's Bicycle Painting in Watsonville, CA for a custom paint, but if you are looking for a simple Earl Scheib paint job maybe they may be capable of that, but anything above that beware.
