Stan Iversen and a group of investors from the agricultural industry founded Suncrest Nurseries in 1989. It was constructed on the grounds of the old Leonard Coates Nurseries, a 100-year-old nursery that was legendary for its work with California native plants. Suncrest Nurseries is a wholesale nursery situated near Watsonville, on California's central coast. It provides a variety of plants suitable for outdoor culture in coastal and near-coastal California. Major categories include unusual showy trees, evergreen, deciduous flowering shrubs, bamboos, hardy to subtropical vines, flowering perennials, grasses, bulbous, cormous and tuberous perennials and ferns. The company has a special focus on trial and distribution of worthy new plants, and on helping to revive interest in those that have been unfairly neglected over the years.
