We have been going to Big Mountain Barbecue for about 8 or 9 years. First sampled their food at a catered youth basketball gathering. We have dined there on average of twice a month during this period and have experienced very good tasty meals, some average but last night June 11th, 2008, we hit a low and had the worst meal in a long time. The waitress was sweet, pleasant a smiling and presented herself very well. Things went down hill from there, the pulled pork meat was served in a puddle of water and seemed more like scrapes, trimming, fatty and not very tasty. The thin potato chips seemed like they were double dipped in old fryer oil. Some were soft and light in color, others were deep golden hard and tasted like old oil and the portion was very small. I sent them back and ordered french fries and they were the same way. Some hard deep golden crisp and others soft and not bad. The vadallia onion entry was also the worst ever and the beans had more liquid than normal, not as tasty. Don't know what happened, but we had a bad dinner, another guest table nearby complained about the very watery brunswick stew, At check we were asked how was our meal, we said terrible, the reply was, oh, I'm sorry and handed us the change. Because it was so unusually bad, we asked, did the restaurant change hands or cooks. We were told there are four cooks, all owners and they take turns cooking. She said she was sorry.

This restaurant was one of our favorites and we recommended it to many of the people that rent our vacation house and friends. Sorry, it will be a very long time before we return. Richard Cooper, Maggie Valley, NC
