We met midwife Colleen Ryfa for our 26-week appointment. She rushed us saying she had other patients waiting and said we didn't have time to talk about our birth plan in our 20 minute sessions. She also seemed altered by the fact that we preferred to refuse the glucose test (which is our right), and it all went downhill from there. When we asked her about cord clamping/cutting and expressed our preference for delayed action, she became defensive and assumed we wanted a home birth. We tried to clarify that we did not want one, and we just wanted her to help us understand how things worked in a hospital setting and why things work the way they do, but somehow she was no longer listening. I ended up crying most of the session because I did not feel listened to or supported.A week later, I received a letter saying we should find another practice, as this was not the place for us.We shared our story with family and friends and the outrage has been unanimous.
