Awful Room - Worse Service

We travelled to Wenatchee for a large family event. My parents arrived before us and paid for our room and picked up the key but did not look at the room. When we arrived at 3:30 PM, we didn't need the key because the room door was standing open and a large industrial fan was blowing in the door and there was an odor reducing device in the middle of the floor. An employee hurried in to remove the equipment. We were in a hurry to get to our 4-7 PM event, so we dropped off our things and left. When we returned the room smelled very bad (mold and carpet cleaner in the still wet carpet), and the first time we used the toilet it nearly overflowed. We notified the office of the problem and we were given a toilet plunger! After we spent half an hour in the stinky room, fixing their toilet, we decided we would make the 3 hour drive home rather than stay in this room. Finally at around 8 PM I told the receptionist that the room was unacceptable because it stunk, had wet carpet and the toilet didn't work. When I gave her back the plunger and demanded a refund, she said "We'll see about that. There has never been anything wrong with that room before you rented it." I told her we WOULD be getting a refund and asked her name and the name of the manager, but she swore at me and refused to tell me her name. She made a phone call (presumably the man who had removed the equipment from the room when we arrived) and it was obvious that she was told that there had been a problem with the room and to refund our room fee. Nevertheless, when she hung up she tried to hold the refund hostage "Maybe you'll get a refund" because I had demanded a refund rather than asked. Had they said they had no usable room instead of trying to rent us one that was clearly not in usable condition, we would either have found ourselves another room or we would have left much earlier for the long drive home. It would have been nice to hear an appology rather than be accused of causing the problems with the room and being sworn at by the rude receptionist.
