Just flew into Columbia SC last week.



Had a reservation for a car for over a month.



Called the morning of travel to make sure everything was OK because we would be arriving late at night, and was assured it was.



Reservation was made with flight, so they (Hertz) know when to expect you.



My flight arrived 15 minutes early.



Upon arrive at baggage claim, where the car rental places are, found the Herz desk was dark, and no one was there.



The Avis folks saw me and waved me over, they told me that Hertz doesn't hold the car for you when you reserve it, not their policy.



Avis had been renting 50-60 cars out to Hertz customers, because Hertz was out of cars. Apparently they rented out the last car they had and left.



Fortunately I got the second to last car Avis had left.



I received no notification that there was no car for me, and (later found out), there should have been someone there, they were not supposed to be closed.



Spent an hour the next day, of my vacation, talking to 7 different hertz people on the phone and getting no where.



I did get a generic email from Hertz customer service saying to not respond to the email, and the phone number I got from the email, when I called was said no one is here, like my experience at the airport.



My advise is DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT reserve, or rent from Hertz at this location.



Why do we bother reserving a car at Hertz if they don't hold a car for you?
