The Franklin County Housing Authority owns and manages more than 680 senior and family public housing apartments in more than five communities in Franklin County, Ill. Its Section 8 program subsidizes rents to private landlords. The authority s Family Self-Sufficiency program is designed to assist families in becoming economically self-sufficient through job training and placement, high school equivalency classes, child care, transportation and other supportive services. Its Imaging Centers is an after-school enrichment program that allows children to play video games and watch movies. The authority additionally sponsors a drug elimination program, as well as offers a program that pays for youths to take instruction in various sports and other activities, such as soccer, baseball, basketball, karate, gymnastic and music. The Franklin County Housing Authority is located in West Frankfort, Ill.
