Established in 1850, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency that employs a staff of more than 35 full- and part-time sworn officers. It prevents crime, suppresses criminal activities, and protects residents lives and their property. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office operates a 44-bed correctional center that provides detention facilities for pretrial, presentenced, and county- and state-sentenced prisoners. The office maintains a K-9 unit that handles cases related to tracking and searches for persons, buildings and evidence. Located in West Union, Iowa, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office also conducts judicial sales and auctions of seized and abducted property.
