School is good, some teachers are not

My child has been going to this schoool for about 2 years. When she started there, she was placed into one classroom. The teacher, older lady who has been there for over 30 years, told her to get away from the window and sit down. Knowing full well that it was my child's first day at preschool. She came to the window when we left. You don't talk to child like that who is already scared and feeling overwhelmed. Thankfully, they put her into another classroom that day with a teacher who wasn't so jaded and mean. She loved it in that classroom. She learned a lot. The school moves kids around pretty frequently and my child was put back into the mean teacher's classroom. She picked up so many bad habits when she was in that class for a few months. The teacher didn't know her name even after a few months. When I ask questions, I was given condescending looks like asking "how did she do today?" was inappropriate to ask her. She always seemed put out when dealing with parents and sometimes with the kids. Not the right attitude if you are a preschool teacher. My child couldn't wait to leave her classroom when I came to pick her up. Now, they moved my child in another classroom and this teacher is much better. MUCH better. Already, the bad habits have subsided. The school is great. It was recommended to me by my neighbor who had her kids in there when they were little. The neighbor's kids are now in their 20s, if that tells you how well thought of this school is. If you happen to get the bad teacher, see if you can request a different room. There are some fantastic teachers there but there are also some bad apples there. Overall, it's a decent preschool.

Wonderful place, wonderful people

Both my children (now 5 and 7) have been going to Wooden Shoe for almost five years and I can't say enough good things about the place. The staff is amazing, the teachers are top notch and the environment is simply a wonderful place for little ones. My daughter even went to Kindergarten there and her teachers have her a head start I believe will continue to benefit her until she graduates. Sure there are a few nits to pick, I've had my concerns with a teacher and the comments on the snacks are accurate, but the administration is open and communicative about anything I want to discuss with them. They are truly dedicated to the welfare of my children, even to the point of training their staff to care for my daughter when she was diagnosed with T1 diabetes. The curriculum is fantastic, the activities and field trips they take the kids on are outstanding. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a fun and stimulating environment for thier kids.

Been in love w/ this place since I went there!

The Wooden Shoe is an amazing place. Not only have I taken my children to this establishment, but I also went there til I was in after-school care. The teachers are the BEST and care for each child as their own. I love the music program and the interaction during gym time and arts/crafts is more than I could have hoped! Thank you for being so dependable for so many years! Ps: "Supermom" should spend less time listening to conversation and more time on her spelling :)

Not impressed!

The wooden shoe does not provide a good working place for children to learn in. I am not impressed at all by the staff. The only good staff there are the younger teen age girls! The owner is the sweetest but as for one of her daughers that is a teacher there is not. I was in a room close by and head this teacher (owners daughter) degrating a child. Yelling at this child calling the child a baby, and saying "how sad", in front of all the other children. I was schoked that they get away with that expecially her being the owners daughter. She was not setting a good example. I also overheard older teachers talking about how wasted they were getting that weekend. Very unprofessional if you ask me. Over all I would NOT recommend the Wooden Shoe to anyone. Stay away, far, far away. The school is not clean and unorginized. My child will be removed from that school as soon as possibal.

teacher, mom

Best school ever. Worked there forever. Best teachers, directors, owner, all staff. Never will you find a more loving, caring school. Children always come first. Moved out of state and will never work in another preschool because there is no place like Wooden Shoe!!!

A good daycare

My son has been there for now a year and he seems to really enjoy it. He's 18 months and when we come to pick him up he throws a big fit because he doesn't want to leave. I have noticed that my son doesn't get as sick as he use to like the last place we took our son. The only place I can see them improve is the food they feed the kids. The food is junk and I'd like to see more veggies and fruit. Other than the poor food they feed the kids the daycare is great.

Excited that we got a spot

My son has been attending for just over a year after being on a waiting list. What a difference from Kindercare! We like the teachers, the school is very accommodating of special diets and the music, gym and art programs cannot be beat.

Its okay

My son has been at wooden shoe for a year now. I would say it's okay. The main problem is the poor quality of the food. For snack they get things like sugary cereals, "cinnamon toast" (sugar on bread) & chips. Lunchtime is okay but a lot of the meals include chips and unhealthy sides. In this time of rising childhood obesity I would really like to see a more healthy menu. The teachers are okay, they are frequently preoccupied with other projects and not necessarily supervising the children 100%. My son has had numerous injuries, some of which would have been preventable with more supervision. On the other hand, the art projects, gym, playgrounds and teaching seem to be excellent for his age group.

Amazing, Loving Staff!

The Wooden Shoe Staff just can't be beat! My husband went to Iraq while my son was there, and the caring and concern for both my son and myself was amazing! If you have a chance to take your child, do, he is more than ready to begin kindergarten this year, thanks to all the learning at this day care!!!!

This place is filthy

The owner is a spastic eccentric woman. I hate to say it she looks like she is a prostitute. the facilities smell of sour milk. I had my 5 year old in the preschool. I would pick him up after nap time. there were always children running around with no shoes on. I once came in during snack time to get my son, they were feeding them processed nacho dip with greasy potato chips??? The "teachers" are merely young high school girls, who were not very bright when it came to a basic conversation, as well as manners! The pool area is dirty, and one of the supervisors is a very sketchy looking man, that I was not at all comfortable having around my children. If your child is enrolled I would check this place out, and really look at it. This day care is NOT worth your money what so ever. I would give negative stars if I could.

Fantastic !!!!

What a wonderful happy place. The staff has been there forever, and are always advancing their education .They have Indoor pools,a gymnasium, cooking classes and lots of academic education. My children were more then ready for kindergarten and the years that followed because of the Wooden Shoe. Socially and academically they were ready to learn more in school. My children started when they were 1year old all the way through elemantry school. The owner/director was always on site.We loved her, so super nice, and wanted the best for the kids like they were her own.She is highly educated in early childhood education.
