Provided by YP.comCuteness of the collar and the inexpensive price does not make up for the fact that I almost lost my 4 month old Crestepoo on August 20, 2012. The collar in question is the small reflective paw print collar. I never thought that her favorite nap place and this collar would almost take her life. If I had not been home, she would have strangled to death.
She wore this collar all the time. I clipped it on her and never took it off from the first minute we got it for her. I never realized that the clasp would not release in the moment I needed it to. In the photo I have enclosed, you can see where I cut the collar to release her from a very terrifying and dangerous situation because there was nothing else we could do, especially since the collar and clasp are so small.
She loves to lay on the AC vent in the Las Vegas heat and this collar got stuck in the louvers of the vent somehow by the ring that is meant for the leash to be clipped on to and possibly in conjunction with the rabies tag. She screamed and twisted and pulled so hard that the vent literally came out of the floor by the time I got to her. She was terrified and had started to run with the 5 pound vent still attached by the ring---she only weighs seven pounds. When I caught her, still screaming with tears streaming out of her eyes because the collar was getting tighter and more twisted around her neck, I could not get the clasp to release. The vent kept pulling downwards from its weight and the collar kept tightening on her neck. I had to try to keep my fingers under it so that she wouldn't be strangled and call my disabled husband in to try to hold the pup while we cut the collar with scissors. She was terrified (and so were we) and still thrashing wildly.
Thank God I had put it on with the rule my dad always had...roomy enough for two fingers under the collar, just in case the pup grows or gets stuck. If I had not put it on looser, the outcome could have been even devastating.
I think the company needs to reevaluate the tightness and ease of release of the clasp. As you will see in the photo the clasp is still closed and I can't even pry it open. It doesn't need to be manufactured so tightly (and the parts that push in to release the clasp so small) that the average consumer cannot take the collar off at a moment's notice. It would be a better solution to put the release mechanism on the broad, flat part of the clasp, almost a button type of mechanism so it would be easier to remove in case a situation such as this were to arise. It would not detract from the look of the collar to have clasp to be chunkier and more workable. I would much rather see a chunkier clasp and a safer product than a dangerous product.
After the incident, I called my vet who recommended that I bring her in the following day. I took my pup in to be checked out on Tuesday August 21, 2012 at 2:15 PST. Dr. Prejean feels there probably is no lasting damage to her neck from the ordeal, but will keep an eye on her.
I called the company and they promised to send us a complimentary pack of collars and harnesses to try out. That package never arrived and we never got a call from the company to check on our pup. It is almost 3 months later and we have decided not to do any further business with this company nor do we recommend it to any one who has a pet!
